The financial system of any country is termed as 'the veins and arteries' of the country
through which money gets circulated among its various parts and sub-parts, namely, banks,
institutions, industries, sectors, individuals and so on. The well-being of a country's economy
is directly proportional to the well-being of its financial system, which in turn is dependent on
how well-defined and well-structured the system is.
The current book, 'Financial System of Bhutan', elaborately describes various components of
the financial system existing in Bhutan. Bhutan, being a small country with a meagre
population of around 7.65 lacs, can boast of nurturing a full-fledged financial system,
technically as well as operationally. The book vividly explains the Banking System of
Bhutan, including its Central Bank. It also narrates various guidelines and prudential norms
applicable to banks. The areas like 'Capital Market', 'Fiscal System' and 'Development Banks'
have also been dealt with lucidly.
The book gives a bird's eye view of the Financial System of Bhutan in totality and thus fills
the vacuum in the literature of Finance where titles of a similar nature related to Bhutan are
lacking. Only stray references are available. That way, the book is a welcome attempt in this
direction, enriching the existing literature of Finance on Bhutan.
Considering its rich contents, the book is useful to students, researchers, scholars, and
academicians, on the one hand; and to the policy makers, on the other hand. It is equally
useful to knowledge-seekers and inquisitives, who are willing to know more about Bhutan
and its various dimensions.
